Elk Prairie Campground: 8/30

Written December 2018

Day 1

Today was mainly a driving down…making our way down into the Redwoods from Portland.  Can’t remember too much of what happened today…but I think we took our time in the morning and had a nice solid breakfast before packing up the car with everything we’d need for camping and city walking.  Driving down, since we were passing by K&R Drive-Inn, we decided to stop by to share a nice thick milkshake for our lunch. 🙂

Probably about 3 hours later…maybe 6 hours overall, we finally made our way to the northern edge of the Redwoods, and took a stop at Crescent Beach for a little walk.  It gave us a nice change to stretch our legs out and get some fresh air.

From there, we drove along the coast, and through Del Norte Redwoods State Park and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park for about an hour before we made it Elk Prairie Campgrounds.  Pretty much right when we got there, we got what we were looking for by staying there, and saw a few elk grazing on the grass nearby.  After watching them for a bit, we set up our campsite with our little blue feathered bird friend for the next couple days.  After some dinner (I think we had some leftover adobo…but not positive) we laid out a rough hiking plan for the next couple days.
