Las Vegas – February

Written  March 2019

Back in November or December, Norina’s friend graciously offered up her vacation ownership points to Las Vegas for us to use in February.  Las Vegas isn’t really my favorite place to go anymore, as I’m pretty over the whole gambling thing, but figured, sure, why not…there’s probably some other outdoorsy stuff to do out there.  And thankfully…there was some beautiful landscapes for us to see and play around in!

The Plan

2/13 – 2/17

We had a pretty well set plan for this trip… and almost everything went awry with it.  We found a great deal on plane tickets to fly on Wednesday evening, and come back on Sunday evening.  I bought the tickets on my phone, and somehow didn’t realize that the tickets I bought where from Vegas to Portland… and then Portland to Vegas.  So unfortunately, that great deal wound up turning into a terrible deal after the change fees.  Then later on, I found out I would be going to a conference in LA the following Tuesday, so I wound up also cancelling my Sunday flight to just go straight to LA.

So aside from the flight situation, our plan involved a out of outdoor activities.  Hike around the Red Rock Canyon pretty much all day on Thursday.  Then on Friday, go kayaking through the Black Canyon gorge of the Colorado River.  Saturday, back on the rocks to hike around Valley of Fire State Park – and then see Cirque Du Soleil’s Ka in the evening.  And then finally on Sunday, check out Hoover Dam and walk around the strip a little before our flight.  Aside from Ka, we didn’t wind up following this plan for ANY of our days out there.  Despite that, it was still a really fun trip with a lot of Vegas firsts!
