8/28 – Day 0: And We’re Off!
Today, we’re finally embarking on our 3+ week trip to Switzerland and Paris!
We’ve had this trip planned for awhile now, and it’s finally here! Excited to be abroad, explore some old cities and hike around the beautiful alps!
8/29 – Day 0: Philly Layover
So our trip started off with a little bump in the road… we were supposed to fly Alaska into Seattle at 9, and then catch a 10:20 American Airlines redeye to Philly. Our Seattle flight got delayed at the gate, so they moved us to another Seattle flight…ok…not too bad. Flight was super quick, and we got into Seattle with plenty of time to spare.
We slept decently on the way to Philly (me a little better), but there was a stinky woman across the aisle whose odor awoke us every now and then. When we arrived in Philly at 6:30am though, our little bump turned into a hill, as Norina’s checked bag didn’t make it through. I guess when they switched our flights, her bag didn’t make it through. And we couldn’t file a claim until getting to Zurich since that was our final destination. After getting on the phone with both Alaska and American, we realized there wasn’t much we could do and just hoped for the best.
After getting some hotel breakfast, and taking a short nap at my parents’ hotel, we went downtown to check out the historic sites. This was a nice way to spend a layover…getting to see my parents and doing a little sightseeing…but we were still a little tired.
And then it was time for lunch! We decided to go to an Indonesian restaurant that we hadn’t tried before..Jembatan 5…it was really good, and I’m still full as I’m writing this now.
After we filled our bellies, I decided to call Alaska again to see if they had any update on Norina’s bag..and it was a good one! They put the bag on a Delta flight, and it got into Philly earlier today…so they said we should be able to pick it up at the American Airlines baggage claim. So we went there…nothing and no help! Over to Delta…no bag..but at least he confirmed that it was indeed on the flight and now somewhere in Philly…hopefully at Alaska. Made our way over there, and we saw the bag…in a locked office. Finally got her bag after we found someone to unlock the office for us! All is better now!
So after another nap and shower at the hotel…here we are back at the airport and ready to go to Zürich!
